Pensawel Stud
Aberaeron Festival 9th August 2009

The Festival at Aberaeron gave Kate another chance to take Crumpwell Bethania out for a bit more experience.  She seemed to take it all in her stride, whilst Annah took Caebryn Surreal for a good gallop having taken Penstrumbly Paper Roses for a more sedate in hand show in the morning.
(She's expecting you know.)
(Paper Roses not Annah!)
(Kate's just turned white and Meredith's taught the parrot a new word!)

Royal Welsh 20 -23 July 2009

A wet and miserable show and with hindsight, it probably wasn't neccessary to take so much time getting the white socks white....

Penstrumbly Paper Roses had the best result, coming 5th in the Barren Mare class on the Wednesday, with Kate and Annah being very glad of capable assisitance to show Deytheur Mel in the mud in the afternoon.  Caebryn Surreal got her first Royal Welsh out of the way without any mishap, but wasn't placed this time.

Vale of Clettwr 4th July 2009

A successful show for all four females competing from the Pensawel Camp with:

Annah & Penstrumbly Paper Roses gaining 1st and Champion in the barren mare and gelding class, as well as 1st and Champion for Condition and Turnout & 1st and Champion in the Mountain & Moorland.

Kate took Crumpwell Bethania, a mare that she has been backing for someone, and took 1st in the Welsh Ridden as well as 2nd in Condition and Turnout, & 2nd in the Mountain & Moorland.

Ceredigion 28th June 2009

After a short break mid season, Annah and Surreal were pleased to come away with a 2nd in the novice class at the second Ceredigion Summer Show.

Valley Spring Show

Another successful outing for Annah and Caebryn Surreal where they achieved a 1st in the novice M&M (as well as Reserve Champion) before going on to gain another 1st in the Welsh Ridden class and a 3rd in the open M&M class.

Cothi Bridge 30th May 2009

Sunshine, sashes and smiles all round as Annah and Caebryn Surreal won their class, the welsh under saddle championship and reserve supreme of show, judged by Mr G Rowe (who you might know by his stage persona of "Jethro").  Surreal behaved impeccably throughout the long hot day, and was such a star you might almost forget that Penstrumbly Paper Roses won her class too. Woohoo!

CWPCA Spring Medal Show 17th May 2009

Another wet weekend, but it was worth the effort of going to the Carmarthenshire WPCA Spring Medal Show over at the United Counties show ground near Carmarthen as there were more rossettes for Kate & Annah. Kate had a third place with Deytheur Mel in the stallion class and Annah took 2nd in the novice class and then 2nd again in the open class with Caebryn Surreal, with barely a second to catch their breath between the championship of the first classes.

Glanusk Show 2nd May 2009

Annah & Surreal had a brilliant result with a
3rd in the combined Welsh Cob Section D stallion, mare, or gelding
under saddle place at Glanusk.

YFC Stock Judging 24th April 2009

On Friday 24th of April, Pensawel Stud hosted the eliminator of the YFC Stock Judging.  Kate and Annah worked tirelessly to get 4 mares and 4 stallions ready for the discerning eyes of the finalists, with Meredith ensuring that the stud was ready to receive all the visitors that arrived in the early evening, to compete, support and steward.  Dewi Williams, Rhandir & Dr Glyn Jones, Gwarchod, were the judges called on by the YFC to set the order and mark the competitors findings and they both took their time considering the virtues of the stock which was presented to them before the young farmers, in order that they could confidentially establish the correct order of each of the two classes.

Each competitor then had to give a one to one presentation to the judges on how they placed the animals and for what reasons.  The evening ended with the two judges giving the order that they saw the animals as well as offering some useful advice as to the competitors, before Michael James from the Sir Gar YFC thanked Kate & Meredith as well as all the all the handlers and stewards for ensuring that the evening had run so smoothly.

Photo above features Caemansel Jack Daniels wondering why the YFs are taking so long to place the exhibits because he knew the moment he stepped in the ring who was the best.

Lampeter Show 18th April 2009

It was good to catch up with friends from around the UK, but the results were a bit disappointing, with Kate & Deytheur Mel having the best result of the day: 5th in the Mid Wales Stallion Class.

Glamorgan Show 5th April 2009

The first show of the year for Pensawel Stud was at Pencoed College where Deytheur Mel , the stallion being leased from Teg & Mel Jones, was 1st in the Stallion class, Pensawel Grand Slam was 2nd in the yearling colt class and Annah & Caebryn Surreal were a commendable 5th in their first ridden show together.
